HTC Sources Smartphone Production to Celestica's Brazil Plant

Taiwanese Smartphone maker HTC has begun sourcing Smartphone and PDA (Personal Digital Assistant) phone production to the Brazilian branch of Canada-based EMS (Electronics Manufacturing Services) provider Celestica, according to Taiwan's Commercial Times.

Trial production for HTC commenced at Celestica's plant in Campinas, S緌 Paulo in 2006. The initial output will be used to meet the demand in the Brazilian market. Starting in 2008, this facility is expected to manufacture export models targeting other Latin American countries as well.. According to Commercial Times, HTC expects Windows Mobile-based Smartphones to account for 1.5% - 2% of the Latin American mobile phone market in 2007. The figure is projected to rise to 3% - 4% in 2008.
